Definition of ‘life’ by Merriam-Webster   1 : the state characterised by the ability to get and use energy, reproduce, grow, and respond to change: the quality that plants and animals lose when they die. 2 : the period during which a person or thing is alive or exists.  The definition of living in ‘Your Dictionary’ is a person or thing that is alive or active, a living breathing person with brain activity. A lot more definitions could be written down about both LIFE and LIVING but are we missing the plot?  Have we over the years taken away from the real essence of the meaning of the words LIFE and LIVING.

When does life start, when does life end; if it even has a beginning or end?  When does time start, was there a realm of timeless union outside of our understanding of time.

Humanity as a spirit man, was, is and always will be alive.  Before the world was created, God had Christ choose us to live with him (Eph. 1:4a CEV), as one with Him.  Living in this eternal realm; no beginning, no end.  In Gen 1:26 God said let us make man in our image according to our likeness, and in Gen 2:7 a man was formed of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life-God’s own breath- and  the man became a living being.  Adam, a spirit in a physical body, into the physical time realm of creation, on planet earth.  Adam could live (be active) this life on this earth, which was breathed into him to the full, with all authority.  It is not our brief time on planet earth that introduces us to God! We have always been known. After our time on the earth is finished, we physically die (to dust we will return) but our spirit continues, because we are eternal beings, we have life eternal – life ‘out-of-time’. In reality we will never die!! We were and are and always will be in the eternal realm. “God raised Jesus to life! And since God’s Spirit of Resurrection lives in you, he will also raise your dying body to life by the same Spirit that breathes life into you”! (Romans 8:11 TPT).

The story continues – when does life begin and end in this physical time realm?

In plant life the process of germination occurs, where an organism grows or sprouts forth from a seed or spore, usually after a time of dormancy, when time or circumstances are right and the formation of a seedling occurs. The life of the parent plants is transferred into the seed, though we do not usually recognise the new life till germination.  The same can be said for all living creatures, that life is continuous from parents to offspring.  However, there is no spiritual dimension present in plants, animals or other living creatures since only humanity is made in the image and likeness of the spiritual being we call ‘God’.

In our understanding; all humanity starts from the seed of Adam, the son of God (Luke 3:38).  Therefore, since we are from Adam’s seed, we all have the spirit of God in us.  God’s Spirit is part of humanity, not part of plant life. So when husband and wife come together and conception takes place, their life is continuous to their offspring and so also the Spirit of God, who abides in the parents.  “You formed my innermost being, shaping my delicate inside and my intricate outside, and wove me together in my mother’s womb. I thank you, God, for making me so mysteriously complex” (Psalm 139:13, 14a, TPT). “For in Him, the Lord, we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, For we are also His offspring.”(Acts 17:28 NKJV).
