Where do curses fit in with a loving God? No where! God is love and therefore He only gives us good gifts, not curses. Curses will come into existence where people start believing lies about themselves, who they really are as the sons and daughters of God as part of the unity in the Godhead. Or believing lies about others and words of un-truths which have been spoken out over them.  Therefore a curse is a consequence of words spoken out of ignorance or out of disobedience as in James 3, as speaking evil portrayed as “the power of the tongue”.  A self-inflicted curse is when you speak an un-truth over your own life, cursing yourself and not realising the truth of who you really are. The remedy for that is to believe what God says about you, what He declares about you. Don’t believe in the un’s,  like un-belief, un-deserving, un-worthy etc. By believing in the ‘uns’ you will put a curse on yourself, you will not enjoy all of the 100% blessings God has poured out over you. Take up the authority, you are seated with Christ in Heavenly places. He has given you all authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy. Nothing will harm you (Luke 10:19). You can heal the sick. Proverbs 26:2 says it so well: “like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow, an undeserved curse does not come to rest”. It has no place in your life.  The one declaring the curse might as well try to dictate where a sparrow in flight should land. Humanity has been justified through faith (Romans 5:1) and therefore undeserving of punishment (Romans 8:1, There is therefore now no condemnation of those who are in Christ Jesus).

What about generational curses you might ask?  I had nothing to do with them; they were put on my forefathers well before my time.  And I will be the recipient of them. Example: my grandmother died when she was 50, my mother died when she was 50, therefore I will die at the age of 50. Don’t take that on board but take up the authority and break this. Don’t apply this to your life. But be renewed in your mind (Romans 12:2 TPT), “Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, (don’t take on board the negatives-curses) but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through the total reformation of how you think (who you are as part of the unity in the Godhead) with all authority. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes”.

The curse of the law is the only curse which did affect humanity. The outcome of the lack of authority exercised over the serpent – Death. But we can read in the NT (Gal.3) that Jesus came to fulfil the law. What was that law again?  The law which mandated You shall have dominion over. Dominion over the flesh, dominion over creation, dominion over your earth. Jesus did just that, he had dominion over creation, the storms obeyed him, he could walk on water. The flesh obeyed him; people were healed, the dead were raised. Death was defeated. Jesus died on the cross, rose again after 3 days thereby destroying  the works of satan (1 John 3:8), freeing the people who were held captive. Gal.3:13, “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, because it is written: Everyone who is hung on a tree is cursed”. (Based on Deut. 21: 22) Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law. On the Cross he concentrated the total curse of the human race upon himself.  He absorbed and dissolved the horror of the curse in his own person (Mirror Gal. 3:13). Thereby purchasing our freedom.

So are there still curses, are there still generational curses or not? And what can we do about them?

Awaken to the truth: “It is finished”. Break off the generational curses they have no place in your life and you are declared blessed by God himself. Live in the freedom of the person set free.  John 8:36, “So if the son makes you free, you will be free indeed” (NASB).
